Let's Get Crafty

My previous job was working with patients with opioid dependence in an emergency room setting. While this job was very rewarding and a great professional experience, it was not light or happy work. In an attempt to do something different, I decided to work on something fun - bow ties! Inspired by my travels and a love for textiles, I began designing and making adult and baby bow ties. My etsy store (NekByJess) is now up and running. Nek comes from the Afrikaans word for neck because the first bow tie fabric I purchased was in South Africa. Feel free to check it out: http://www.etsy.com/shop/NekByJess?ref=search_shop_redirect

A new apartment = new DIY projects. Jason and I installed an olive green floating entertainment shelf when we first moved in. This being the only green thing in our living-room, I felt we needed to incorporate some additional green into the room. Being really over my couch pillows, I thought new pillow would be a great way to do so. Armed with fabrics from my trip downtown and a new sewing machine, I was ready to sew. Trying to use as much of my old pillows as possible, I cut open one to find stuffing - yesss! Stitched up and stuffed, I think my new pillows do a good job of adding some much needed color to our living-room. Not sure how successful I was about remaining gender-neutral (sorry Jason).

  1. LOVE the fabric you chose for the pillows! Are you using your mini sewing machine?
