It's Getting Spooky Out There

One of my best friends came to visit this past weekend. Rachel and I first met in Mommy-and-Me Class and really hit it off (well as much as babies can). Since our toddler days we have been on many family vacations together, were in the same girl scout troop, completed a month long semi-backpacking trip through Europe, and both went to college and grad school in San Diego. It was only right that she was one of the first to come visit me in my new city. Rachel landed on Thursday evening and so did the cold weather. I have been trying really hard to hold off on wearing any coats as I know this is just the beginning of much colder weather to come. The last few weeks have been nothing but vests and scarfs... until this weekend. I'm afraid to say I did not reach for the fall coat, I had to go all in with a down one.

Once suited up in our fluffy armor, we were ready to explore Chicago. First up, brunch at Toast which was scrumptious and may be my new favorite brunch spot. Next was the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Bean, Crown Fountain, drinks in the Hancock, and Chicago Hauntings ghost tour. We lucked out with a west facing table in the Hancock so we were able to watch the sunset as we sipped our seasonal inspired cocktails. The ghost tour was a new Chicago experience for both of us. The tour consisted of visiting historical sights throughout the city such as the Iroquois Theater fire, the Eastland boat disaster, and the Hull House where Jane Addams and the Devil-Baby lived. Our instructions were to listen to our guide, who was full of historical and supernatural information, on the bus and then disembark to take photos, look for orbs, feel for quick temperature changes, and I kid you not- wait to see if any ghost children start grabbing at your ankles or legs. Our supernatural encounters were limited but we did have one photo with some interesting orb/ghost figures (see below). It wouldn't be a Chicago weekend without Chicago style pizza. We headed to my favorite place for such delicacies, Chicago Pizza & Oven Grinder, and indulged on pizza-pot-pie. I know it's not exactly deep-dish pizza but it consist of a pound of crust, cheese, and sauce so I think we can say it's close enough.

O and we may have also had some donuts :)
