Valentines Day Massacre

You win some, you lose some - the motto of baking. I am afraid the chocolate dipped strawberries that I made for the Super Bowl gave me an inflated sense of baking confidence. French macaroons - no problem, it will be a breeze. Well, three batches later I have a crumbled pink mess on my hands. Usually, improvement is made with practice. Not with macaroons. My first batch was close, my second batch made a sharp turn to the trash before making it to the oven, and my third batch was actually laughable. Two macaroons were saved from this slaughter of meringue, chocolate, and raspberries. See them in all their glory below.

Super Bowl Strawberries.

Here, things started out strong. Ingredients: raspberries, almond meal, sugar, egg whites, almond extract, and cream.

Still doing good. The batter must sit for 30 minutes before going into the oven to develop a "skin".
And here is batch one and three.
The survivors.
