Breck a Leg!

Our trip to Breckenridge was a welcomed break from the hustle and bustle of city life and work. At almost 13,000 feet elevation the air definitely feels different- clean and crisp but also a little lacking in O2. Nothing makes you feel more out of shape than breaking a sweat just walking to the chairlift line with your gear. But the weather was great and we even got some fresh snow to ski/snowboard on.

Three full days of skiing/snowboarding allowed some time for experimentation. The last few ski trips we have been on, I have been the lone snowboarder of the group. As I searched for a spot to flop down and strap in, I'd watch my skiing companions breeze by with ease. The same thing happens at any flat point of the mountain - I'm stuck wiggling at a dead stop as alpine skiers quickly become cross-country, poll using, skiers. Okay! Fine. There might be something to this whole skiing thing. As a childhood skier, this new venture was either going to come back to me like riding a bike or a humorous day of wipe-outs. Jason opted to go along with the theme of the day and rented a snowboard.

I think we both did better than what we expected ourselves to do. We were able to spend the day on some easy intermediate runs with just a handful of graceful crashes. In conclusion, I think I will ski again, it was pretty fun, but I still like to snowboard. Jason's quote of the day "snowboarding does not have one redeaming quality" ... so I think he will remain a skier.
